As for exactly who the new Ghostface will be, all will be revealed soon with Scream 2022’s Janurelease date just around the corner. We should be seeing the trailer for the new Scream movie any time now, we know it has been approved for theatrical showings and is 2 minutes and 21 seconds long… but while we wait for that to show up, the film’s poster has been unveiled. The new film’s official Twitter account has teased this before, with a previous poster showing the complete cast and featuring the slogan, “ The killer is on this poster.” As avid fans of the Scream franchise will know, it is the series’ unabashed celebration of well-known tropes which make the films such a joy for fans of classic horror. While the Scream franchise was not officially launched until 1996, this retro poster does indeed pay homage to the many classic horror tropes which the franchise is known for playing upon. Leaning heavily into the retro aesthetic of 1980s horror film posters, the image features the iconic Ghostface dripping blood with the slogan, “ It’s always someone you know.” Check the poster out below:

Quelling fears of a complete series reboot, by May 2020, it was revealed that Arquette would be returning as fan-favorite Dewey Riley, and that Campbell was also engaged in negotiations to appear. In late 2019, however, Spyglass Media Group swooped in to pick up the rights for a fifth film, and within four months, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett were officially attached to the project with production ready to get underway. With the film rights originally owned by controversial film producer Harvey Weinstein’s production house, following the collapse of The Weinstein Company, the future of the Scream franchise was left in serious doubt.
